What Does Restorative Dentistry Involve?

We have found that, regardless of your age or background, over the course of a lifetime, most folks will have to deal with one or more of the usual oral health problems: cavities, gum disease, infection, aches and pains, and even tooth loss. While such issues may not be top of mind, these are all things that can happen to anyone. There is some good news, though: as your comprehensive dentist’s office Jeffery A. Spilman, DDS, will be here to help. Read on to learn more about our quick and effective restorative dentistry solutions and then be sure to follow with our St. Petersburg, FL team to schedule your next appointment with Dr. Spilman.

Mercury-Free Fillings

You may not ever have to worry about some of the bad things that can happen in a mouth. But it’s more than likely that you will experience some level of tooth decay at one time or another. For many of us, this happens when we are growing up. But no matter when it unfolds, you will want to take care of the problem in a subtle fashion and get on with your life.

Back in the day, cavities were filled with a metal amalgam, which was, no doubt, effective enough, but such solutions attracted unwanted attention and the material contained mercury, which is dangerous at certain levels. Fortunately, here at Jeffery A. Spilman DDS, we have been metal-free since the early 90s.

With our more forward-looking dental filling procedures we will numb the affected tooth and create a small opening in it, getting rid of all of the decay in the cavity. Once the decay is removed, we will then fill the hole in with a composite resin. What’s the difference? Our tooth-colored composite resin fillings are much more visually appealing and safer to use than old-school metal fillings.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canals have a bad reputation. So, we want you to know that if you ever should need a root canal treatment, we promise to go easy on you. Here’s the thing: when tooth decay reaches the soft pulp of a tooth, a simple filling will not be enough to prevent infection and ensure that the health of the tooth can be restored. This is when we would want to perform a root canal, which will rid the tooth of infection, replace the tooth’s pulp with an inert material, and seal it off again. Keep in mind: our root canals will actually alleviate the pain you’ve been experiencing rather than create pain.

Bridges, Crowns, Dentures, Etc.

We have other restorative dentistry solutions too and each of these restorative components will help your mouth look, function, and feel like it would naturally following tooth loss, a root canal, or some other similar situation. When you are here for your session with Dr. Spilman he will go over all the great options available to you. But we can tell you that, in the modern era, dentures are better than ever and we can actually secure them with a dental implant procedure. You can enjoy complete confidence with our dentures!
