Everyone is at risk for cavities. Your diet and genetic makeup and play a role in whether or not you end up with any. You can help yourself out by avoiding added sugars, drinking plenty of water, rinsing with fluoride, and brushing/flossing every day. Still, if it ever happens to you, Dr. Spilman can get you back on track fast. For our dental filling procedure we will numb the affected tooth and create a small opening in it, getting rid of all of the decay in the cavity. Once the decay is removed, we will then fill the hole in with a composite resin. We use only tooth-colored composite resin fillings, which are much more attractive and safer to use than traditional metal fillings. We can even help you replace all your old fillings that are likely full of mercury and other metals.
Sometimes it is helpful to pause and reflect on the reality of a situation. Here’s a myth: that root canals are painful. Truth be told, root canals are what we use to relieve the pain. If tooth decay ever reaches the soft pulp of a tooth, a simple filling will not be enough to prevent infection and ensure that the health of the tooth can be restored. But we will be able to perform what is known as a root canal, which will rid the tooth of infection, replace the tooth’s pulp with an inert material, and seal it off again.
Crowns, Bridges, and Dentures
Don’t worry, if anything has gone awry in your mouth, we have a lot of good options for you at our St. Petersburg office. Obviously, some of our treatments are going to be designed for more specialized functions. Crowns, bridges, and dentures are restorative components that will help your mouth look, function, and feel like it would naturally, following tooth loss, a root canal, etc. But we can talk about all that when you get here. What are you waiting for?
