Get Everyone’s Teeth In Great Shape
Here in Florida, we are luckier than most in that it doesn’t feel like Fall in St. Petersburg.
Still, for most families, vacation time has past, the kids now need lunches packed, help with homework, and to be driven to all over town to athletic practices or extracurricular activities.
At Jeffrey A. Spilman DDS, we take our role as a trusted family dentistry office seriously.
As such, we know what you are up against in terms of finding free time and extra money.
That is why we can offer a wide range of affordable dental solutions all in one great place.
This includes the emergency (and often traumatic) dental work that no one anticipates, as well as the cosmetic, restorative, and general dentistry that can all be conveniently scheduled well in advance.
You will soon see that, once entrusted to our care, we will do our best to provide your entire family the expert care and education needed to keep everyone’s teeth and gums in great shape for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
Healthy Smiles, Happy Home
We don’t want to get heavy with you right off the bat but the American Dental Association recommends that you brush your teeth at least twice a day.
And we concur. We would only add that you do it for at least two minutes per session to maximize the positive effects.
Think about the state of affairs in your mouth after a big meal or when you first wake up in the morning. That’s quite a mental image, right?
Bad breath, food particles, beverage stains, tartar, plaque, and bacteria would run wild if you didn’t get in there and perform some regular maintenance with a toothbrush.
Brushing your teeth is your primary defense against tooth decay and gum disease.
So, don’t get lazy. It isn’t worth it.
What’s Your Excuse?
Over the years, we’ve discovered that people are not overly resistant to brushing their teeth. But they sure do come up with the craziest excuses for not flossing.
Maybe you have some excuses of your own.
But did you know that the only way to reach the bacteria, tartar, and plaque that lodges itself in the harder to reach places of your mouth is with dental floss?
You might not be happy about adding flossing to your daily routine, but we can assure you that you wouldn’t be happy about cavities, gum disease, or missing teeth either.
Take an extra minute and floss every time you brush.
Go even further by rinsing with a mouthwash that contains fluoride.
Jeffrey A. Spilman DDS Can Keep Your Oral Health On Track
Our team loves to get to know each and every patient so that we can keep up with your ever-changing dental needs and hear all about your goals related to the health and appearance of your smile.
But there is a reason that the American Dental Association wants you to come see us approximately every six months.
The main reason is so that nothing has the chance to get out of control in your mouth.
The folks at the ADA probably put it a little more eloquently than that but you get the idea.
When you brush and floss at home, there will inevitably be a certain amount of plaque and bacteria that is left behind.
That plaque can harden in less than a week and become what we call calculus.
No, it doesn’t have anything to do with math except that, left unattended, calculus will begin to subtract from the enamel of your teeth, which adds up to trouble for you.
This situation usually results in cavities and, eventually, bone loss.
However, if you visit the dentist regularly for routine preventative cleanings and exams, you won’t ever have to worry about things getting out of hand.
What’s more, when you are here, we will screen you for oral cancer and other issues that might be impacting your overall wellbeing.
So, even in this busy season, don’t neglect to schedule your family’s next checkup.
By staying on top of things now, we can spare you a lot of trouble (and financial burdens) down the road.
