A More Comfortable Dental Experience
Welcome back to the blog!
We hope that you are finding lots of good information here related to dentistry and oral health. We also hope that if you are currently looking for a dentist, you will take the time to learn more about us and give us the opportunity to learn more about you in the process.
Choosing a dentist in St. Petersburg, FL can impact your health for years to come. You want to find a dentist that you can trust with your family’s ever-changing needs, one that is qualified to tackle whatever dental issues that come along. But you also want a dentist’s office that has a compassionate staff, and is sensitive to any discomfort or anxiety that may be related to your appointment.
At Jeffery A. Spilman DDS, we’ve built our reputation on exactly that kind of care.
Whatever the reason for your visit, we want you to feel comfortable when you are in our presence. You will be welcomed warmly each time you pass through our doors.
Our team is always quick to offer additional comfort options such as pillows, blankets, and headphones (with a variety of music to listen to on one of our iPads).
All of that is well and good for most folks.
But we know that some of you out there are terrified at the thought of coming to see ANY dentist. There is actually an official term for that condition. It is called dental phobia. It is nothing to scoff at.
Often dental phobia is the result of fear related to confronting the unknown or the reality of your health conditions.
However, the majority of the cases we have dealt with actually stemmed from someone having a bad experience with dentistry sometime in the past that continues to haunt them to this day.
Does that sound familiar?
Maybe you were not treated kindly by your childhood dentist. Perhaps you had an unpleasant encounter with an old school dental drill or given a treatment that you did not want.
Whatever the reason for your fear and anxiety, it is something that we will help you get beyond. Your health is too important to avoid the dentist. Our professional teeth cleanings can keep your mouth clean and free of disease in a way that you could never do on your own. What’s more, our dental exams give us a chance to assess your oral health. We look for gum disease, cavities, and other issues like cancer. If something seems amiss, we can work to remedy the situation before it becomes a more painful and costly ordeal.
So, if you do have some level of dental anxiety, we will set you up with one of our sedation dentistry systems that will quickly put your fears to rest.
With nitrous oxide, aka laughing gas, you will almost immediately be put at ease as the nitrous oxide and oxygen mixture is inhaled.
The good news is that you’ll be awake throughout and will return to a normal state of consciousness shortly after your treatment is completed.
With oral sedation, you will be conscious for your procedure, but you will be very relaxed and will likely not remember the procedure at all once it wraps up. You will also probably forget why you were ever afraid in the first place.
And so you see that, with us, your comfort will always be top of mind. We hope that you will give us a chance to earn your trust.
