A Gentle Dentist With The Right Tools And Training To Keep You Smiling
Welcome to our dental blog!
Today we want to talk about fear and anxiety. Don’t worry, we want to tell you how we handle such things in our St. Petersburg, FL office, and why you’ll have nothing to be nervous about if you schedule an appointment with us.
Let’s start with a brief story. When Sophie first showed up for a professional teeth cleaning and exam, she was noticeably on edge. It had been a while since she had been to a dentist and she was afraid, not only of what might be lurking in her mouth, but also of the lecture that thought awaited her, and the pain that would surely go along with any necessary treatment.
Sophie quickly learned that there would be no scolding, and that we were willing to go to great lengths to make sure she was comfortable during her visit with us.
Fortunately, Sophie’s story has a happy ending. While she did have quite a bit of tartar and plaque layered on her teeth, she did not have any cavities, and she exhibited no signs of gum disease, cancer, and so forth. She was relieved. And grateful to walk out of our office with a clean bill of health. Sophie was also delighted to have a new view of what a dentist’s office could be like. And she started to schedule her checkups on a regular basis.
Maybe you can relate to Sophie’s story. To optimize your wellness, you will want to partner on oral health with a dentist’s office that has the training, tools, and technology sufficient enough to take care of your dentistry-related needs. But you also want to work with a team that is kind and compassionate and that has a welcoming and comfortable space. It, sadly, isn’t like that everywhere.
You will be pleased to know that, at Jeffery A. Spilman DDS, we’ve built our reputation on being a forward-looking, yet gentle dental office.
We even provide extra touches including comfort options such as pillows, blankets, and headphones (with a variety of music to listen to on one of our iPads).
We can also go deeper, in order to relax you, with dental sedation.
If you do have some level of dental anxiety, let us know and we will set you up with one of our sedation dentistry systems that will quickly put your fears to rest.
With nitrous oxide (laughing gas), your fears will soon be put at to rest as the sedation is inhaled. And you’ll be awake throughout the procedure and will return to a normal state of consciousness shortly after your treatment is completed.
When you opt for oral sedation, you will be conscious for your procedure, but you will be very relaxed and will likely not remember the procedure at all once it is over. You will want to have someone around who can drive you home!
That doesn’t sound so bad, does it?
