Jeffery A. Spilman D.D.S : Teeth Whitening in St. Petersburg, FL
I offer a couple different options for teeth lightening. The first option would be a take home tray. Now a lot of patients go to the store and they will buy a product and they will mold the mouthpiece and the problem is that all the bleach leaks out. There is no form fit around the gum line. What we do is we take impressions so that those trays are custom fit to the patient. I use a product called Zoom. It is a product that was originally developed by Bill Dorfman who was on tv as the cosmetic guru. It is a really good bleach and the chemistry behind it has really improved. Patients used to experience a lot of sensitivity, even with take home bleach, and now that sensitivity is much reduced. So we will take the impression for the trays and sometimes we can make the trays that day and then we can dispense the bleach to the patients and they will wear those trays every day for two weeks and then we will bring them back and check their shade.
The other option we have to offer for bleaching is in-office and for that we use the zoom light. The patient should plan to be in for about two hours. We spend a lot of time preparing the gum and barricading the gum from the bleach so the patient will have to sit there with their mouth open, I’ve done it several times so it’s comfortable. We will apply the bleach for three different sessions at about 15 to 20 minutes per session. This bleach is stronger so we protect the gums so it doesn’t burn the gums. The high intensity light activates the bleach. Patients get immediate results. I recommend patients go home with the trays as well because the bleach light will really condition the tooth, therefore the trays are going to work a lot better too.
And once again, the formula of the bleach is so much different, sensitivity can be greatly reduced. We will send them relief gel to take home to put in their trays where they can wear the relief gel if they do experience any sensitivity after the bleach.
When you look in the mirror, do you wish for a brighter, whiter smile? Over the years, no matter how much you brush, floss, and rinse, your teeth can lose their shiny, white color. Thanks to dark-colored foods and beverages like coffee and wine, along with bad habits like smoking, your teeth can get really stained and yellowed, even if you brush and floss daily.
So what can you do? At Jeffery A. Spilman DDS, we offer the most effective professional teeth whitening in St. Petersburg, FL available for both in-office and at-home treatments.
