Cavities occur when plaque is allowed to sit on teeth and harden, becoming calculus (tartar), and they can lead to major problems with your dental and oral health. To avoid them, brush and floss your teeth thoroughly at least twice each day and whenever possible after meals. To clean away any plaque and calculus that you might miss, schedule routine cleanings and exams with Dr. Spilman at least once every six months.
Absolutely. Flossing rids your teeth of food, plaque, and other debris that finds its way in between your teeth and under your gums. If you don’t have time for traditional flossing or just hate how messy it is, we recommend Shower Floss , a handy piece of equipment that actually uses a stream of water from your showerhead to clean between your teeth and under your gumline.
Over-the-counter whitening strips and gels are not nearly as effective as Zoom! and other professional whitening products and treatments that you can get at your dentist’s office. While you might see an improvement of one or two shades with over-the-counter products, our in-office and at-home treatments can give you much more significant whitening in much less time.
Zoom! teeth whitening gel is proven to whiten teeth by six to ten shades. For fast and effective whitening, schedule an appointment with us to have custom dental trays made for your teeth. For the fastest results, you can choose a combination of in-office and at-home treatments with professional whitening products.

At Jeffery A. Spilman DDS, we will always work hard to save a tooth if possible. If a root canal procedure can be performed successfully, the tooth will not need to be extracted, and a crown can be put in place. If your tooth cannot be saved, though, we can extract it and discuss your options for a bridge, partial dentures, or implants (which will require a visit to a specialist) with you.
Root canal treatment has a bad reputation, but it really is nothing to be scared of. When you come in for a root canal, we will numb the tooth, remove the infected pulp, and replace it with permanent, inert material and any necessary pins for structural stability. We can perform crown preparations in the same visit to avoid multiple appointments. Then, when your permanent crown arrives, we will cement it in place and fit it to your tooth. You will leave with natural-looking, strong, and healthy teeth.
